Top 10 Shocking Supercar Concepts

If I owned any of these bizarre supercar concepts, I would not only drive them, I would drive them everywhere. To the In-N-Out burger, the theatre, Publix grocery store…just to see the twisted, confused or shocked looks on the faces of those around me.

Without further ado, here is my (current) compilation of the top 10 shocking

Lamborghini Insecta

1. The Lamborghini Insecta concept looks like an action hero will bound out of it at any given second. I want that action hero to be me.

Opel Siderium Concept Car

2. The Opel Siderium Concept Car is equally appealing, and if I were in it, I would be peeling out…from the McDonald’s drive-up…

eWolf e2 concept

3. The eWolf e2 is ok I guess…I could see myself driving it to grab some groceries or something.

BMW Sequence GT concept

4. The BMW Sequence GT concept looks like an ant…a shiny metal ant about to create chaos with its deadly front pinchers. If I were driving this luxury concept car, I could simply pick off anyone in my path.

Ferrari concept car

5. This Ferrari concept car may be in danger of scraping the pavement with its grille, it just needs bigger wheels. I’d likely rock this ride to the Dollar General Store.

Honda Concept Car

7. This Honda concept car looks like if one were to tap the pedal, the engine would shoot out of its rear-end. I would use this to outrun any Honda Civic in my path.

10. This elegant Spyker concept is perfect for any outing, like to the mall…wait…not enough storage space.

WTF: A Luxurious Land Rover Defender?

While the Land Rover Range Rover brand is best known for its superior off-roading capacities, they do not skimp in the luxury SUV department, either! We love the brand, and offer Range Rover SUV rentals everyday!

Land Rover Twins

Land Rover’s Twins

Land Rover is a brand that allows you to have both Spartan performance and Jolie-Pitt good looks! But traditionally one went to Range Rover for added luxury, not the bare bones Land Rover Defender. So what is this stunning blend of more than just muscle meeting the eye?

Luxury Land Rover Defender Twins

Luxury Land Rover Defender Twins

It is the unprecedented luxury car concept of Bulgarian tuner Vilner, who had a notion to mix the concepts together. Basically, the Bulgarian customs shop was given the not-so-modest task of transforming two Land Rover Defenders into luxury off-roaders like their Range Rover cousins! The fun project was titled “The Twins”, and the madness began!

Luxury Land Rover Defender Twins

The interior is amazing!

The Defenders were insulated to reduce friction and noise, the doors were fitted with leather and the center console was jazzed up with Nappa (similar to Bentley). Off-roading expenditures in the Twins will hardly constitute ‘roughing it’, with a 600 W navigation system and a 15-inch screen complete with DVD player neatly installed in the ceiling!

Luxury Land Rover Defender Twins

It is rare for an SUV to be so lavish

Overall, this was an impressive operation involving two of the brand’s best vehicles sort-of becoming one! The Twins reflect the best components, power and luxury, all in one unit…or two!

Leaked: Audi R8 Gets a Facelift?

Audi has been in overdrive in recent years, pushing out awesome new models and amping up the power, like with the new Audi R8. But is the already awesome Audi R8 about to receive a facelift of sorts? Photos leaked online suggest this is a possibility! View our Chicago Audi R8 rentalshere and compare!

Audi R8

2011 Audi R8

The R8 manages to combine a sleek modern exotic sports car appearance with just enough power, yet it is not an all-out supercar like a Lamborghini Gallardo or Ferrari Italia. The latest Audi design debuted at the 2006 Paris Auto Show, and may be about to do an about-face!

Audi R8

Audi R8 facelift!

Well, I suppose some five years of sporting the same telltale grill and shape could appear stale to some, so what is Audi intending to do? The photo depicts a new front end for the Audi R8, a mock-up that could become standard if met with approval.

The changes include a hexagonal grille rather than the standard oval, and an edge where it meets the lights. Aggressive LED lights are prominent, and the headlight will span from the quarter panel to the grille. The grille mesh has been altered from the current crisscross to a hole-style mesh.

WTF: A Ford Mustang With an Aston Martin Engine?

Mustang with Aston Martin engine

Mustang with Aston Martin engine

There is a 2005 Ford Mustang out there with a dirty little secret:  it has an Aston Martin engine!  Yes, lurking beneath the hood of this American muscle car is a beating British heart in the form of a Ford built 6.0-liter V12 from a 2001 Aston Martin Vanquish.  This is a bizarre exotic car indeed!

Mustang with Aston Martin engine

The Mustang is equipped with an Aston Martin engine…yet appears klunky and cheaply thrown-together to me

Call it a bastardized hunk of metal, or an example of sheer automotive brilliance.  This Muston, or Astang, was originally built for SEMA in 2006, and includes all oversized wheels and custom touches that you would expect from such a creation.

It also has a name (though I like the ones I made up above), ‘Vanquish’d’, which is sort of clever when compared to some custom car names out there.  What is more surprising, however, is the $79,900 asking price.

Bugatti Galibier 16C May Hit Production As Royale

The luxury concept car known currently as the Bugatti Galibier 16C sedan is rumored to have received a green light for production.  If this is true, there are also rumors that it may be released under the name ‘Royale’ rather than Galibier.  Onward to a short Bugatti history lesson!

Bugatti concepts

Bugatti luxury car concepts, the Galibier 16C or Royale

In the late 1920s, Bugatti released just 6 examples of a Type 41, commonly known as the Royale.  It was a 21-foot long behemoth weighing in at 7,000 pounds and packing a 12.7-liter engine, and it was designed for royalty.  Unfortunately, just 3 Bugatti Royales sold.

Let’s hope the new Royale fares better than its predecessor!  Word is that the Galibier/Royale (whatever it turns out to be) will offer over-the-top opulence and an 8.0-liter turbocharged W-16 engine kicking out 800 horses.  I feel certain that just a handful of these models will be produced to a pre-existing client base!

Lamborghini ‘Singapore’ Limited Edition Supercar

Lamborghini Singapore Limited Edition

For the Lamborghini lovers out there, there will be a new special edition Lambo joining the fleet of hypercars.  The Lamborghini Singapore Limited Edition Gallardo will be unleashed, and only ten shining examples of this unit will be produced.

It is no secret that Singapore has an appetite for luxury cars  and this Lamborghini will certainly be a prized possession for the lucky ten owners.  This limited Lamborghini Gallardo commemorates the 10th anniversary of Lamborghini Singapore.  The Lamborghini Singapore was finalized quite quickly, with talks beginning in July of 2010 and decisions made just three months later.

Lamborghini Singapore Limited Edition Supercar

Lamborghini Singapore Limited Edition in White

This special edition Lamborghini is available in white or black, and distinguished as the Singapore edition by the red stripes along the profile.  The Merlion, a mythical half-lion half-fish creature is the most famed symbol in Singapore, and graces the 5.2-liter V10 engine beneath the hood, along with an interior plaque.  In my humble opinion, ‘Merloin’ should be a mermaid and a lion…and this reminds me of the movie “Napoleon Dynamite” when he announced that his favorite animal of all time was a ‘Liger’, a lion + tiger mix.

The powerful engine of this bull enables it to make a century sprint in just 3.9 seconds, thanks to 550 horses and 540 Nm of torque.  Yes, please.

On the philanthropicend, the dealership has pledged to donate $20,000 from the sale of each limited edition Lamborghini Singapore to the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund for underprivileged students.

Chrysler Looks to Nine-Speed Transmission, Not Hybrids, to Boost Fuel Economy

Chrysler CEO and parent company Fiat S.p.A boss Sergio Marchionne is playing checkers while every other automaker is playing chess. After filing for bankruptcy back in 2009, Chrysler made the decision to pour funds into the research and development of a transmission with more gears to better fuel economy and vehicle performance. Now, three years later, Chrysler, with some help from German transmission specialist ZF Friedrichshafen AG, is rolling out eight- and nine-speed automatic transmissions to row through in a variety of Chrysler Group’s portfolio.

Transmissions with more gears are usually found in luxury vehicles like BMW and Audi. Chrysler is working on a well-groomed transmission of its own after spending $1.3 billion on development. These nine-speed transmissions will only be found in Chrysler brand vehicles when production of the new gearbox begins in the first half of 2013. As for the eight-speed transmission, that will be employed in the Ram 1500, newer models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, as well as the Dodge Challenger and the all-new Dart. The long-rumored Jeep Grand Wagoneer, believed to be joining the off-road brand’s portfolio in 2014, will also rely on the eight-speed transmission. Chrysler has made it known that anything that’s rear-wheel drive will most likely use the eight-speed gear box while the nine-speed transmission is meant for front-wheel drive vehicles.

The development of the eight- and nine-speed transmission, while it’s expected to boost fuel economy and vehicle performance, has been perceived as doing the bare minimum to get by President Obama’s proposed CAFE standards. Obama has proposed that all U.S automakers must double their corporate average fuel economy (hence the acronym CAFE) to 54.5 mpg by 2025. Some industry experts wonder why Chrysler won’t develop an electric powertrain for its own version of a hybrid.

Marchionne meets those criticisms without even saying a word. Through the first six months of 2012, combined sales of the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, both of which use the eight-speed transmission, are up 68 percent. Both vehicles have been using the new transmission starting with the 2011 model year. Just for good measure, Chrysler will be rolling out an electric Fiat 500 next year, too. However, the electrified 500 is mainly to satisfy California’s “zero-emissions vehicle” requirements.

The new eight- and nine-speed transmissions will begin production at Chrysler’s Kokomo facility in Indiana later this year. Chrysler has already committed to investing $300 million into the Kokomo facility to better suit the production of the ZF-sourced nine-speed automatic gearboxes.

What do you think? Should Chrysler push forward with the eight- and nine-speed transmissions in order to get better fuel economy and performance? Or should it develop a hybrid like many other automakers? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

Video: Bugatti Veyrons Get the Bronze in Monaco and Geneva

When you mix masses of money with a love of exotic cars, the result is often intriguing: like this bronze Bugatti Veyron spied in Monaco! This car reminded me of the bronze and polished aluminum beauty from the 2012 Geneva Auto Show see video below. While most Bugatti cars are unique to some degree and all manage to stand out like a sore thumb, these bronze examples leaves an audible impact in their wake!

Supercar owners go to extremes to make their exclusive machines even more unique. Hey, no one likes a copycat. Above is the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse in bronze and aluminum.

Photos: Lamborghini Crashes into BMW Bike Dealership

A supercar crash is always newsworthy, but when it involves a BMW motorcycle dealership, the news spreads like wildfire….or the 458 Ferrari fires On July 6th, a man drove his Murcielago directly into a display of BMW bikes, plowing them over and severely damaging his hypercar.

Lamborghini crash

“Hello…I’d like to trade my Lamborghini in on…all of these!”

The best comment regarding the incident read: “Italian car made by Germans crushing German bikes owned by Italians. Interesting.”

Bumper cars, anyone?

Now that many Lamborghini Aventadors have been delivered, the crashes are piling up. It is actually quite common for drivers to lose control of exotic cars, even experienced drivers. The power catapulting these cars along is exceptional, and should never be underestimated. Fortunately, most wild sports car crashes result in damage to the vehicles and not loss of lives.

There were no life-threatening injuries reported, but you can be assured that the ego of the Lambo driver certainly suffered. The accident occurred in Marian, Italy.

Meet the High Emotion, Low Emission Ferrari California HELE

It is a dazzling vision in red…or green, depending on how you view the new eco-friendly Ferrari California HELE (pronounced “heli”, like a helicopter). After much speculation, Ferrari has finally unleashed its most unusual supercar, boasting a serious reduction in emissions…and no, it is not a luxury hybrid

Ferrari California goes green

The Ferrari California goes green!

Now that your interest is piqued, let’s get down to specs on the new Ferrari California HELE. This model is the first-ever showroom example of an environmental program by Ferrari focused on reducing total corporate carbon emissions by roughly 30,000 tons, or 40% over a 5-year span.

Ferrari claims it has reduced the carbon emissions of its entire exotic sports car range, in percentage terms, by more than any other manufacturer on the planet.  Ferrari’s PR reps are highlighting how the brand has proven that it is indeed possible to achieve low carbon dioxide emissions while maintaining Ferrari performance characteristics and driving pleasure.  In other words, the HELE packs as much punch as the standard, and you can experience the standard when you rent a Ferrari California in Miamifrom Imagine Lifestyles Luxury Rentals.

Ferrari California HELE

Ferrari California HELE

The California HELE offers the same blistering acceleration, handling and braking capabilities as the standard California, but emits less carbon dioxide than the average taxi, at just 270 grams per kilometer.

This is achieved via a 4.3-liter 338kW V8 engine fitted with specialized cooling fans and fuel pumps that use less power.  The air conditioner compressor has an electric control for further efficiency, but more significant is the introduction of an engine stop-start function that turns the supercar off at lights, reducing urban fuel usage up to 15% in heavy traffic.  The California’s 7-speed dual-clutch transmission was remapped to reduce engine revs by 8% during urban driving as well.

The Ferrari California HELE is looking toward a greener future

Further endeavors of the Ferrari environmental program include:
•    Introduction of photovoltaic power in the Maranello factory
•    Reconfiguration and realigning of manufacturing plant buildings
•    The addition of large indoor gardens and rooftop cooling ponds to naturally ventilate and regulate indoor temperatures

Competitors must be green with envy!  The HELE California, while greener than its counterpart, will start at $2,650 more than the $452,500 standard California.
