Used Bentley – Live the Dream – bentley

Bentley is a name synonymous with wealth and power. To own a Bentley means that you have the money and the means to get things done. At least that is what people think when they see someone driving one of these prestigious high end cars. Interestingly enough, the Bentley brand is fraught with financial woes and internal troubles that contrast the public view of these elite cars. Never the less, there is no doubt that Bentley is a car that many people could never hope to obtain, in fact these cars are so elite that it is likely that you have never even seen one much less had the opportunity to purchase one. However, there are those who have purchased a Bentley that never thought they could because they purchased a Used Bentley.

Now, do not go thinking that you can take your $ 10,000 in cash and go purchase a Used Bentley today. Even a used Bentley is going to cost you more than a traditional vehicle. Do not forget, these are the pinnacle of cars, the cream of the crop so to speak, so even a used one is going to start at $ 50 to $ 60 thousand dollars. While this is not as affordable as, let’s say a used mini van, the way people perceive you when you drive a Bentley is far different then how they see you when you pull up in your mini-van.

A new Bentley can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars so getting a Bentley for fifty or sixty thousand dollars is a great deal, especially considering that Bentley owners are synonymous for keeping their vehicles in great shape. While you are not likely to get a 2009 Bentley Arnage for fifty thousand dollars, you could find yourself driving away in a 2004 Continental GT Coup Used Bentley for that price and that is saying something.

It is rare for someone to not know the Bentley name. Everyone who knows it understands that this is a name that means quality as well as high end when it comes to vehicles. Bentley has been around since the early 1900s and is still going strong, even in the tough economic climate. It is no wonder that a Used Bentley is so appealing, everyone wants to drive a Used Bentley

Moscow Auto Show Gains Status

Moscow Auto Show Gains Status

Have international auto shows had their day?

There are many industry pundits who feel major auto shows have lost their luster in mature markets. It’s true that the formerly important major shows in countries like the UK, Italy and Japan have downsized or even disappeared. Manufacturers are looking for more cost effective ways to reach potential customers, such as local ride and drive events that are growing in popularity.

Still,  in countries, such as China India and Russia, where the new car markets are rapidly expanding, major auto shows are growing in importance. That’s partly why Mazda chose to give the striking new Mazda6 its global premiere at the 2012 Moscow International Automobile Salon this week. Another factor in the decision being that Mazda is opening a new plant in Russia, just as its only one in the U.S. Closes its doors.

Moscow was also where the new Land Rover LR2 (still known elsewhere as the Freelander 2) got it’s first public showing, as did the Bentley Continental GT and the freshened Audi R8.

Lada, a brand I suspect many think died when communism died, is still the market leader in Russia. However it’s now partially owned by Renault and its lineup of cars is being upgraded. Check out the X-Ray concept Lada unveiled – it could have come from a design studio anywhere in the world.

The all-new Kia Quoris (know as the K9 in its home market) got one of its first showings outside of Korea. At first blush Kia’s flagship rear-drive sedan sure looks like a Jaguar. Speaking of Jaguar – it premièred the new AWD version of the XF in Moscow.

Luxury marques, which often skip auto shows in the U.S., were very much in evidence in Moscow. Which leads to a question — do you still find auto shows exciting or are they not as important anymore, especially since so many exotic cars are missing?

Dennis Rayfield is one of our Live Advice specialists, and he finds that one thing people are always asking about is third-row seating.

In response to this, he decided to put together a list of SUVs available with this feature. Dennis’s list is included here, for all those in the market for an SUV with a little something extra in back.

Note that this list includes the Ford Flex. While the Flex isn’t technically an SUV, we thought it was worth including, since it’s often cross-shopped against some of the models included in this list.

8-Speed Automatic Coming to all 12-cylinder Bentley Continentals

continental gt 8.jpg
Along with the all new badging, the 2013 Bentley Continental — GTC, normal and Speed — will benefit from the ZF-built 8-speed automatic transmission that currently does duty in the Continental V8.

According to Bentley, this transmission, along with a new hyper-fast engine management system, improves fuel economy by 12 percent in the coupe. Also according to Bentley, the new transmission makes better use of the  567 horsepower 6-liter engine which means better acceleration. They claim 60 mph from a standstill takes only 4.3 seconds — this would still put it ever-so-slightly behind the V8 Continental which sprinted to 60 in 4.2 seconds in our testing.

Birkin Bentley Nabs Incredible Amount at Auction!

All is good at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England! A special 1929 Birkin Bentley racecar just snagged an incredible $7.9 million at Bonham’s exotic car auction during the event! According to Bonham’s, it is a record for a British car sold at auction.

1929 Birkin Bentley

The Birkin Bentley has now set speed and auction pricing records!

The single-seat Bentley racer packs a 4.5-liter supercharged engine designed just for racing. What is better is that it was made specifically for high-speed racing circuits like England’s Brooklands track. I can see why someone would want this luxury racecar…I can even grasp how someone would $7.9 million-dollars want it.

So why the name Birkin? No, it did not come with a handbag from Hermes. The car originally belonged to Tim Birkin, a famed member of an entourage of racing aficionados dubbed ‘The Bentley Boys’. The boys competed in Bentley cars and even assisted with development during the formative years of the brand.

1929 Birkin Bentley
Fun fact: The Birkin bag is a handbag by Hermès, handmade in leather and named after actress and singer Jane Birkin.

1929 Birkin Bentley
This particular Bentley was coated in red rather than the traditional British racing green and nabbed a record on the Brookland’s outer circuit at 137 mph.

Dramatic Bentley SUV Concept Updates

The Bentley SUV concepthas finally been revealed in what is likely going to be production condition at the Geneva Motor Show. The luxury SUV has an interesting name, the EXP 9 F…is anyone else reminded of the “Prince” symbol?

Bentley EXP 9

Bentley EXP 9

The good people at Bentley were kind enough to email Imagine Lifestyles Luxury Rentals to give us the details on the new SUV. Bentley described the EXP 9 F as “A fusion of contemporary crafted luxury, advanced in-car technology, commanding driving position and all-terrain capability in a spacious and high performance SUV”. We could not agree more!

Bentley EXP 9

The Bentley EXP 9 on display

Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer seems very optimistic if not exhuberant about the new addition, stating:
“We are very excited by the potential of a high performance, ultra-luxury Bentley SUV. We know that many Bentley customers already own SUVs, admiring their style, luxury, performance and versatility. With EXP 9 F, Bentley is making a clear statement of intent that we have both the expertise and desire to meet and exceed their expectations.”

Bentley EXP 9

Bentley EXP 9 F specifications:

What’s inside:
•    That signature Bentley handcrafted wood (see video to discover the process of selecting wood and installing it in each vehicle). The dashboard is a one-piece wood veneer, very difficult to create
•    Fine leather and polished metals complete the effect
•    Panoramic glass panel roof design (think rally car roll cages)
•    Lavish and reversible silk wool floor mats: one side finished in durable ribbed saddle leather
•    Touchscreen technology and tailored interface technologies
•    3D navigation flanked by 2 analogue reverse-read dials
•    Rear seat business mode with fold-away keyboard and internet connectivity via an iPad or tablet
•    Infotainment movie screen
•    Cooled beverage compartment under rear armrest
•    6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 fitted to 8-speed transmission

On the outside:
•    Matrix grill
•    Signature brand lamps
•    Turbine theme of the 23-inch alloy wheels
•    Fighter-jet inspired rear lamps (fighter-jet sound effects sadly not included)
•    Two-piece tailgate doubles as bench or table. It sounds so strange to say that about a Bentley!

The Bentley Mulsanne

Bentley is one of the most famous names in the automotive industry. The name is essentially synonymous to the best in British car engineering, with its high level of sophistication, technology, manufacturing, and luxury, seen in all of its cars. Today, it is the brand of choice for many celebrities, businessmen, and affluent people, opting for famous models like the Continental T and the Azure that have placed very good numbers of Bentley sales. These 2 models, however, owe their lineage to a car named the Bentley Mulsanne, an iconic model that paved the way for many of Bentley’s famous modern models today.

The Mulsanne, named after the “Mulsanne Straight” of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, was created with the intent of epitomizing the essence of what it is to be a Bentley car: high performance, topnotch luxury, advanced engineering. This was achieved by using some of the most expensive materials, machinery, and technology of its day, a truly top-of-the-line vehicle produced between 1980 and 1992.

Originally, the Mulsanne was equipped with a 6.75L Rolls-Royce V8 engine which had cylinder heads made out of aluminum alloy, with a 3-speed automatic transmission system. A Bosch fuel injection system replaced the original SU carburettors on cars made after 1986, and continued on until the end of production.

However, the original Mulsanne model was not the only one made. In 1982, the Geneva Motor Show saw the unveiling of the Mulsanne Turbo, a version of the Mulsanne whose main feature is a Garrett AiResearch turbocharger that gave a 50% increase in engine power. On top of this, the Mulsanne Turbo also featured an upgraded interior, using polished walnut veneered fascia, luxury carpets, pure wool headlining, and the best leather available.

It was a very exclusive car, with only 498 short wheelbase versions ever built, and eventually paved the way for the development of the Bentley Turbo R.

Another variant of the Mulsanne is the Mulsanne S, introduced in 1987 in an effort to revitalize the original. It didn’t have the extra engine power of the Turbo, but it featured many of the features that would appear in the Bentley Turbo R, like changes in the headlamps, wheels, suspension, and interior. It lasted for five years, with the last Mulsanne S appearing in 1992.

In 2010, the Mulsanne has made a comeback, coming in the form of the new Bentley Mulsanne. Like its original predecessor, it is made to symbolize the best in being a Bentley vehicle, and was made to be the company’s new flagship model. It is equipped with a powerful 6.75L V8 engine that is clean enough to meet the Euro V emission standards. Along with this, are redesigned modern interior features, exterior features, and cutting-edge engineering.

With this new model, the Mulsanne name is poised to add more to the legacy of Bentley cars for years to come.
